Well Bred is a bakery without a storefront specializing in slow-style sourdough breads and sweet pastries, including rich, butter-only viennoiserie. You can find out us throughout the year at the Duncan Farmers Market on Vancouver Island.  

Bakery owners Mark Primmer and Shannon Peck take an odd duck approach to business at their smallholding in Chemainus, BC.  It is certainly the only bakery in Canada that features a fine taxidermy collection.

Well Bred was founded in the spring of 2011, and occupies a 300 square foot converted art studio on the owner's property. The property is cohabited by a misunderstood feline named Hoban and his tolerant new recruit Diego. Diego's parents reside nearby in a posh Spanish revival feral cat colony. 

Well Bred is a proud sponsor of the Cowichan Valley Hospice Society through their Reel Alternatives program. In addition, we support the ongoing work of Cowichan Cat Rescue and other rescues in the surrounding communities who trap feral cats, provide TNR, medical care, kitten fostering and adoption.
